  Praying for Rachel
For a couple of days now horse racing fans and Rachel Fans have been praying and wishing and sending good thoughts for a fast and complete recovery to champion race mare Rachel Alexandra. I'm among that group. I have been checking my e-mail and Facebook page frequently to see if there is any news. So far, she seems to be moving in a positive direction and hopefuly that will continue.

She's a lucky mare. She has adoring fans, loving owners, a great home at Stonestreet Farms, and plenty of financial resources. Whether or not she can ever carry a foal again, she has a home forever.

Not all mares, geldings or even stallions are so lucky. Many have no places to go after their careers, racing, showing, breeding, even pleasure horses. Our wild horses are being shoved out of their environment. Let's have a prayer and good wish for them. Let's help out the people and organizations who try to provide for those horses and do our part to help take care of them. Volunteer, support friends who have taken in a homeless horse or given it a second career. Sponsor or donate to a local rescue or aftercare facility.

My favorite group is  Old Friends at Cabin Creek Farm.

I volunteer there and not only do I help horses, they make me feel really good whenever I'm with them.

Other groups that I know are:

Old Friends in Kentucky(Cabin Creek Farm is a satellite

Dogwood Terrace Farm run by Ginny Pierce(a saint)

ReRun   www.rerun.org

Frog Pond Draft Horse Rescue   www.frogponddrafts.com
They have a sick guy,  Ollie, who needs prayers now.

Our Mims Retirement Haven(mares)

There are many other groups and individuals who are trying to do great things for horses, so along with your prayers for Rachel Alexandra, include the others. They deserve our love and respect also.
